Norwalk Teacher Sentenced for Having Sex with Student

STAMFORD -- The Brien McMahon High School art director who pleaded guilty to having sex with a student will spend one year in prison and will then be on probation for 20 years, a judge announced at Friday's sentencing.

John Tate, 54, of Edgewood Avenue, Stamford, was led away in handcuffs Friday morning after Stamford Superior Court Judge Richard Comerford handed down the agreed-upon jail of eight years, suspended after a year served, on charges of second-degree sexual assault and tampering with a witness. During the Norwalk Police Department investigation, the girl told police she and Tate had intercourse 20 times, including in a classroom and at a cemetery, the two-page arrest warrant affidavit states.

In addition to his prison sentence, Tate must register as a sex offender and will serve 20 years on probation.

"This was devastating for all the families involved," defense attorney Mark Sherman said. "John has accepted responsibility and wants to start serving his time."

APD Officer Indicted On Sex Crimes Charges

KOAT- Albuquerque Police Department Officer Tank Guenther has been indicted on 26 charges of criminal sexual contact of a minor, bribery of a witness and tampering with evidence.

Action 7 News obtained a copy of the indictment against Guenther on Thursday.

Investigators said the alleged abuse spanned from August 2002 until December 2005, but authorities didn't know about the accusations until the victim stepped forward in 2009.

Guenther is under investigation for allegations he raped a family member under the age of 13. Chief Ray Schultz said the department learned of the investigation last summer, and Guenther has been on administrative duties until now.

"When felony allegations are made against an officer, the department, a detective or even a civilian, the first thing we do is put them in a position where there's minimal contact with the public, obviously not doing any law enforcement duties or functions," Schultz said.

The department has launched an internal affairs investigation as the criminal aspect is also being reviewed.

According to the indictment filed on Thursday in district court, Guenther is charged with 26 counts of criminal sexual penetration in the first-degree. Investigators also said he bribed a witness and tampered with evidence for four years after the alleged abuse.

A spokesperson for the district attorney's office said that while the charges are against a police officer, it's important to remember that the case is about alleged child rape.

"The community rightly should expect a lot from a public safety officer, a police officer, but we expect more of them," the spokesperson said. "But in this case, this deals with a family matter, about his role in his family abusing a family victim."

Guenther is not in custody, but the district attorney's office said he will soon be getting a notice to appear in court.

If convicted, Guenther could face a maximum of 306 years in prison.

Police say the girl, 7, came to Holly's House after it was discovered that she had a STD.

The little girl told police that the suspect, Timothy D. Montgomery, 52, had molested her.

Police say they went to interview Montgomery.


At first he denied it, but police say he later admitted to molesting the girl.

Police say his wife's daycare was shut down in the 1990s, after molestation allegations were made against Montgomery.

Police say Montgomery is also under investigation for another molestation.

He was taken to jail and charged with two felony counts of child molesting.

Teacher Accused of Having Sex Tapes and Explicit Pictures of Boys Will Stay In Jail

SALUDA, SC (WIS) - A 30 year Saluda County middle school teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a minor and possessing sexually explicit pictures of dozens of young boys who attended the school in the 1980's will stay in jail for the time being.

52-year-old Thomas Taylor of Saluda appeared in front of judge late Friday afternoon to answer to criminal sexual conduct in the 2nd degree and committing a lewd act on a minor under the age of 16. A Saluda County judge denied Taylor's bond.

Taylor told the judge he wasn't a flight risk. "I don't know how to live the rest of my life on the run," said Taylor. "I hope to be out to better put my affairs in order to get ready to fight this."

Taylor was arrested Wednesday afternoon after investigators found sex tapes and items used to whip people in a home he owned. Taylor is a teacher at Saluda Middle School. He's been suspended with pay pending an investigation, according Superintendent Dr. David Mathis.

Saluda County Sheriff Jason Booth, flanked by his investigators and a representative from the 11th Circuit Solicitor's office, stood in front of the media Friday to talk about the case. "This is a very sad day for all of us in Saluda County. As sheriff, I'm taking this case seriously," said Booth. "It's not right what has happened here in Saluda."

Booth said his investigators stumbled upon sexually explicit pictures of approximately 100 young boys while investigating a separate case involving a 19-year-old man who lived in a home owned by Taylor.

While investigating the 19-year-old, deputies found the pictures investigators believe date back to the 80's. Investigators don't believe any of the pictures they seized are of current students.

Booth said the house was full of pictures of 10 to 14-year-old students at recess and playing sports. Booth said some of the pictures depict, "young boys' underwear hanging out of their shorts." The boys were clothed but, "it was obvious he was taking pictures of their buttocks and private parts," Booth said.

There were no girls in any of the pictures and they were all taken on school property, according to Booth.

In the collection of pictures there were images of nude boys getting whipped. Investigators don't believe any of the nude photos include any of Taylor's students.

Investigators also found sex tapes, whips, and straps at one of Thomas's homes," according to Booth. Booth said some of the tapes and DVD's showed young boys getting paddled by paddles and grown men's hands. "

Booth said a witness came forward Thursday evening and advised law enforcement that Taylor started an inappropriate relationship with him when he was 13-years-old. Booth said Taylor took the boy to places live Atlanta, Charlotte and Los Angeles. He is bringing in the FBI to assist with the investigation because the relationship was taken over state lines.

Booth believes there could be others who have been victimized by Taylor. "We have already received evidence that indicates there are multiple victims involved," said Booth. "We're going to interview many, many people in the next few weeks."

In Taylor's 30 years at the school, he's been a physical education teacher, a baseball coach and a yearbook photographer, according to the sheriff. He is currently employed as a 7th grade language arts teacher at the school.

Marcos Colono Arrested In Rape Of 11yo Boy, Barely Decapitates Father

Cambridge — 32-year-old Cambridge resident Marcos Colono was held on a $1 million bail after allegedly raping a 11-year-old boy and stabbing his father with a knife in a Pearl Street apartment on Aug. 26.

Colono was reportedly arrested Thursday morning while walking in the Cambridgeport neighborhood where he is from and where the crime took place. He was arraigned in the Cambridge District Court Thursday afternoon but did not appear in the courtroom. He is accused of two counts of rape on a child, armed assault to murder and home invasion.

Police have been searching for the suspect in the brutal crime from last month at 220 Pearl St. where a masked man reportedly broke into a first floor apartment around 1 a.m. with a large butcher knife and attacked a man and his child.

Middlesex Assistant District Attorney Katharine Folger said Colono stacked the father and son on top of each other while he rummaged through the house for money. Colono then allegedly raped the boy at knifepoint while his father was forced to listen.

Police reportedly found the victims lying in a pool of blood in the apartment. There was blood on the door knob of the apartment door as well.

"The apartment was a bloody mess," said Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone at a press conference Thursday 1 p.m. at the Cambridge Police Department.

"Today this man has a name, he has an identity and he's behind bars," said Suffolk District Attorney Dan Conley at a press conference with Leone and Cambridge Police Commission Robert Haas, among other officials.

The 53-year-old dad, a researcher at Harvard’s Kennedy School, was reportedly stabbed eight to 10 times in the upper chest and neck and three times in his back, underwent surgery and was last reported to be in critical condition. According to Folger, doctors said the attacker tried to decapitate the victim.

The 11-year-old son also suffered injuries and was later released from the hospital.

The knife used in the assault was left behind -- as well as a bloody fingerprint investigators say connect Colono to an unsolved home invasion in Brighton where two college-aged women were raped in September 2008. They also have other forensic evidence linking Colono to the Cambridge and Brighton crimes.

He has not yet been formally charged with the Brighton incident, in which two women, then 18 and 23, were raped inside their Commonwealth Avenue apartment at about 8:45 p.m. on Sept. 21, 2008. A warrant charging him with that offense is expected to be sought in the near future.

"We believe at this time, there is no personal connection between the defendant and the 53-year-old man or his 11-year-old son. It looks to be a home invasion with no personal connection between those involved," Leone added. "At this time, it's unclear what the exact motivation was. Robbery may be a motivating factor."

Colono's 18-year-old brother Michael Colono, was killed by Harvard student Alexander Pring-Wilson in a drunken stabbing in Cambridgeport in 2003. Pring-Wilson pleaded guilty in 2008 and received a two-year sentence in prison.

Leone did not have an explanation and said it is a coincidence.

Colono's mother and sister were present in court but did not speak Thursday.

Colono's lawyer, Ben Selman, tried to argue for a lower bail calling the $1 million cash amount "excessive" based on his client's personal history. He said Colono has no past convictions and only two minor offences on his record -- shoplifting and assault and battery from more than a decade ago. He argued that one partial fingerprint is the only thing that links his client to the crime scenes with no other positive identification.

Judge Roanne Sragow said the bail amount is appropriate given the facts and the nature of crime in this case.

Colono will have to meet several requirements, including wearing a GPS bracelet and having no contact with children until his pre-trial hearing scheduled for Nov. 9, Sragow said.

Colono was born in and lived in Cambridge his whole life and has a 15-year-old son, Selman said. He attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin, dropped out in tenth grade but later earned his GED in 1994. He has been working in construction as a labourer. He has family and friends in the area has no ties to any other community, Selman added.
