1 Dead, Another Critical in Westport Shooting

(12/09/11) WESTPORT- A Westport jeweler is dead and an associate is critically wounded following a shooting at a store last night.
It happened at YZ Jewelers on Post Road East around 10 p.m.

Police say the owner of the store, Yekutiel Zeevi, 59, died at Norwalk Hospital.

They have not identified the second victim but say he is an associate of the business and is in critical condition.

Police believe this was not a random robbery and that the victims were specifically targeted by a single unknown suspect.

3 Accidents Hit the Merritt

We're getting as bad as Russia!
Daily Norwalk- A total of 10 cars are involved in three accidents this morning on the Merritt Parkway north.

Three people were hospitalized this morning after three separate accidents on the Merritt Parkway north between Exits 40 and 42.


At about 7:26 a.m., the Westport Fire Department responded to the report of multiple car accidents along the Merritt. Upon arrival, Westport firefighters discovered three separate accidents along to roadway between Exit 40 in Norwalk and Exit 42 in Westport involving a total of 10 cars. Norwalk firefighters were also on scene, Assistant Fire Chief Robert Kepchar said.
Firefighters checked the occupants of the cars for injuries. Three people were transported to Norwalk Hospital by Westport EMS.


State police were investigating the causes. Icy conditions were believed to have contributed, Kepchar said in a statement. Drivers were reminded to drive at safe speeds in bad weather conditions.


The last Westport fire unit left the scene by 8:34 a.m.

Autopsy: Man Found in Westport Accidently Drowned

WESTPORT - The state medical examiner says the elderly man found floating in the waters off Westport Saturday accidentally drowned.

Earlier today, police identified the body as 88-year-old Richard Terry, of North Haven.

Officials say Terry was found between two docks at the Saugatuck Harbor Yacht Club. They also found his car submerged in about 15 feet of water.

A resident on Duck Pond Road says Terry had attended an event at her home Friday night.
