Car Plows Into Hospital

..Only in Connecticut!
SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) - A car plowed 30 feet into the lobby of a hospital in Southington early Friday morning, police said. One person was shot with a stun gun after a fight with an officer.

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. at the Hospital of Central Connecticut's Bradley Memorial Campus on Meriden Avenue.

According to a News Channel 8 photographer on the scene, a security guard saw someone driving erratically around the parking lot and moments later a car crashed into the lobby of the hospital.

Two men and a dog were in the car and fled the scene, Southington police said.

Officers spotted one man and a dog about a quarter of a mile away on Columbus Avenue. Southington police Sgt. Lowell DePalma told News Channel 8 when an officer approached the man and the dog attacked. The dog bit the officer and the man threw punches.

The man was screaming "I am the devil," Sgt. DePalma said.

He was shot by police with stun guns, and then taken to the Hospital of Central Connecticut's New Britain campus.

Police are still looking for the other person in the car.

The officer, who was not immediately identified, was treated and released from the hospital.

There was no one inside the lobby so no one got hurt.

Police continue to investigate what happened. Anyone who has information is asked to contact Southington Police at 860-621-0101.

The building inspector was called out to make sure the building is structurally stable. A hospital spokesperson said this incident should not affect their day-to-day operations.
