'All Chaos Broke Loose,' Says Witness of Arizona Shooting

(CNN) -- It was a day and an event like so many others -- until it wasn't.

Six people were killed and 12 others wounded, including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, when a gunman opened fire in front of a grocery store in Tucson, Arizona, Saturday morning, authorities said. The congresswoman had been hosting a meeting with constituents when the attack began.

"It was continuous shooting. There was no breaking between it. They walked up and, I'm assuming, just kept firing. It sounded like tons of pots and pans falling down on the ground right next to my ear it was so loud," said Jason Pekau, an employee of a business near the Safeway grocery store.

He heard about 15 to 20 gunshots.

Pekau said he was about 50 yards from where the shooting took place, and he described the parking lot immediately after the attack.

"I just saw people running, screaming towards where the shooting happened. Everyone screaming that it was Gabrielle Giffords," he said.

Giffords was shot in her head and was in critical condition Saturday afternoon following surgery, Dr. Peter Rhee of University Medical Center in Tucson told reporters. A 9-year-old girl and a federal judge were among the dead.

"I did see them take her away on a stretcher," Pekau said about the congresswoman. "She was moving from what I saw with my own eyes."

"From what I'm being told from people that had seen it, she was shot point-blank in the head by the shooter and then after that, basically, all chaos broke loose," he said.

Bullets flew through the window of the grocery store, he said.

Pekau said he saw several people being taken away by rescue workers on stretchers and watched as they were loaded into medical helicopters. At least two people were flat on the sidewalk in front of Safeway, he said. It was not immediately clear whether they were dead or waiting for assistance.

Video from the scene showed one of Giffords' banners still hanging in the storefront. Yellow tape was draped around the parking lot as police began their initial investigation.

Giffords won her third term in a closely contested race against a Tea Party-sponsored candidate and was one of three Democratic legislators who reported vandalism at their offices following the March vote on health care reform.

President Barack Obama spoke from Washington soon after the attack, calling it a national tragedy.

He underlined how simply the day began -- like any other.

"It's not surprising that today, Gabby was going what she was always does -- listening to the hopes and concerns of her neighbors," said Obama, referring to the congresswoman by her nickname. "That is the essence of what our democracy is all about."

Rally to Keep Hasanni Campbell Case Alive

SFGate.com- Even the most stalwart volunteers in the search for Hasanni Campbell fear they will never find any trace of the adorable 5-year-old with cerebral palsy who disappeared one year ago today.

"We pretty much know we are searching for a body, but we still need to find him," said Sherri-Lyn Miller, founder of Citizens for the Lost, a civilian search and rescue organization.

The group, which began looking for Hasanni the day he went missing, may have to face the probability that the young boy has perished, but its primary focus is to ensure Campbell's case remains alive and active.

The group has scheduled a rally outside the Alameda County district attorney's office today at 2 p.m. to renew public interest in the case. Miller and Gail Steele, an Alameda County supervisor, are scheduled to meet with the district attorney's office afterward, Miller said.

A lot has happened in the year since Hasanni disappeared - but unfortunately, little has changed with the investigation to find him.

Sadly, neither police nor volunteers are any closer to knowing what happened to the youngster on Aug. 10, 2009. An extensive search conducted by city, county and federal authorities who canvassed the community with canines yielded no sign of him.

His foster father, Louis Ross, maintains that the boy was last seen inside his car parked in the Rockridge neighborhood. Ross and his then-fiancee, Jennifer Campbell, the boy's aunt, issued tearful pleas for his return. Then police disclosed that Ross had sent Campbell expletive-laden text messages, threatening to abandon Hasanni on a BART train platform.

Ross and Campbell were arrested Aug. 27 but later released due to a lack of evidence.

The couple gave birth to their first child in November and moved to Arizona from the Bay Area last February, authorities said. Since then, the couple have split and Ross moved to Maryland to be closer to his own family members.

Miller and others, meanwhile, continue the search.

"I made a promise in the beginning that I wasn't going to stop until we found Hasanni," Miller said.

It has been a year to the day since Miller contacted the Oakland police and asked for a printout of the flyer posted to find the boy.

Miller, who owned a San Leandro print shop, produced 10,000 flyers and T-shirts, then drove to Oakland around 8 a.m. and started looking for the boy.

Since that day, Miller has organized civilian searches involving more than 100 volunteers and stepped on the toes of law enforcement officials on more than one occasion.

Oakland police initially discredited the group's efforts, saying they did not condone civilian searches.

At Fremont's Central Park last spring, a San Jose police search and rescue team was admonished both for volunteering their services and crossing jurisdictional boundaries without permission, she said.

A rally held six months after Hasanni disappeared also produced a weekend search conducted by police that was not publicized, Miller pointed out.

"If it weren't for us, this case would have died last year," Miller said. "We put police in a situation where they had to respond. Do you think the six-month vigil was a mistake?"

If there is another reason that Miller decided to launch an organization around the disappearance of Hasanni, it was because of the outpouring of support for Sandra Cantu, an 8-year-old Tracy girl reported missing on March 27, 2009. Her body was found less than two weeks later in an irrigation ditch. Melissa Huckaby, a 28-year-old Sunday schoolteacher, was convicted of her murder.

"I'd just finished a print job for them and saw all the support the Cantu family had received," Miller said. "I just couldn't understand why Hasanni's case hadn't received the same support."

Officially, the Hasanni Campbell case is still open, but there are no new leads or evidence to chase down, authorities said.

"It's not a good thing to say, but the case of Hasanni Campbell has gone cold," said Officer Holly Joshi, a spokeswoman for the Oakland Police Department.

"We're going to keep the case open because it's a priority for us," Joshi added.

"There has to be someone out there who has some information, no matter how small, and it could be the piece that breaks it open for us."

BUCKEYE, Ariz. -- CBS 5 News has learned that an Arizona prison inmate who was found dead on Friday was castrated by his cell mate.

Shannon Palmer died from his injuries Friday at Lewis Prison in Buckeye, according to prison officials, who would neither confirm nor deny that he was castrated.

His cell mate, convicted murderer Jasper Rushing, is believed to have castrated Palmer, someone with knowledge of the incident told CBS 5 News.

Palmer was serving a three-year sentence for criminal damage out of Maricopa County. It was the fourth time Palmer was in prison, according to a Department of Corrections spokesman. The spokesman said that an investigation is ongoing

Widow Gets Cleaning Bill After Husband's Suicide

TEMPE, Ariz. -- A grieving widow who lost her husband to suicide less than three weeks ago said she recently received a bill from her former apartment complex, asking her to pay more than $16,000 for cleaning costs and breaking her lease.

"I got to the bottom (of the bill) where it said total due from resident -- $16,000. I can't even explain what was going through my head. I was just in shock," Candice Reinke said.

Reinke, 22, said her husband, Shane Waddell, took his own life in their apartment on Sept. 3.

The pair had only been married since April. They moved into the Lake Front Apartments in Tempe shortly after.

"There are nightmares, emptiness, sadness and so many questions that I don't get any answers to,” Reinke said. “Then, finding this bill in the mail -- I was like, ‘One more thing?’”

A bulk of the charge -- totaling more than $12,000 -- was for bio-hazard cleaning costs.

“I thought, ‘How am I supposed to pay this? Why won't anyone talk to me from (the apartment management)? Don't they have policies in place? Insurance that's supposed to step in?'" Reinke said.

Reinke said she called the apartment manager and tried calling the district manager in hopes of working something out, but said she got nowhere.

"I tried to explain to her. Imagine how you'd feel, finding your husband like that. This was the man I was supposed to celebrate my 50th anniversary with, the person I was supposed to spend the rest of my life with," said Reinke.

CBS 5 News went to Lake Front apartments to try to get answers. The manager deferred questions to the district manager, then told her assistant to take down our questions.

CBS 5 News also left messages for the district manager. As of Wednesday night, there was no response.

Reinke said she received an angry call from the district manager shortly after CBS 5 News visited the property. Reinke said she was told the management would make a decision on the charges by Friday.

Sylar Newton Found...

RIMROCK, Ariz. -- The Yavapai County Sheriff's said the remains found Aug. 10 outside Beaver Creek Campground are that of Sylar Newton, 2.

In a news release, the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said it is now awaiting toxicology test results as it continues its investigation into Sylar's death.

Sylar Newton was camping with his custodial mother and her family July 25 when they reported that he wandered away. A search turned up no sign of him.

His remains were found weeks later at the bottom of a wash near the campsite.

According to investigators, witnesses at the campground told detectives Sylar appeared as if he was under the influence of a narcotic or medication.

Investigators are treating Sylar's disappearance and death as a criminal investigation.

The reward in this case has grown to $8,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case.

Man Allegedly Stabs Wife to Death, Drives Body to Police Headquarters

PHOENIX -- A 58-year-old man has been charged with murder after police say he stabbed his wife to death then drove to Phoenix police headquarters and confessed.

According to police, Dwight Wesley, walked into the station late last night and admitted stabbing his 46-year-old wife, Delores Glover, to death.

According to police, Wesley and his wife allegedly got into an argument while she was driving him to work Wednesday night. Officers believe Wesley stabbed her while she was driving.

He then got behind the wheel and drove, with his wife's body in the car, to police headquarters at Sixth and Washington streets. He walked into the building, leaving a trail of blood behind him, and turned himself in, police said.

Officers on duty said Wesley had blood on his shirt. They thought he was a victim who had come to report a crime. They said that's when he confessed to murdering his wife and gave them a knife.

Investigators went outside and found Glover's body in the car parked on Sixth Avenue, right next to police headquarters. Glover had been stabbed several times. Paramedics were called out, but they were unable to save her.

According to Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department, it was while driving Wesley to work that Glover told her husband she wanted a divorce. That's when Wesley became upset and allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed her.

Investigators tried to questioned Wesley, but they say after his first alleged confession, he stopped talking.

Wesley has been booked into the Maricopa County Jail. He has been charged with murder.

PHOENIX -- A grand jury has indicted a Phoenix woman accused of torturing, killing and dismembering a man whose body was found burning in a trash can earlier this month.

The body of Terry Neely, 46, was found on Aug. 5. Investigators arrested Angela Simpson in connection with the case less than two weeks later.

On Thursday, a grand jury indicted Simpson on charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping and abandonment or concealment of a dead body -- all felonies. In a jailhouse interview with 3TV's Marissa Wingate, Simpson, 33, admitted killing Neely, who was confined to a motorized wheelchair, because he was a "snitch."

"I beat him to death. ... I killed him and cut him up," Simpson said.

Since that interview, Simpson has refused to talk to the media again.

According to Phoenix police investigators, Neely had been stabbed 50 times and beaten. A nail had also be driven into his head.

Police also arrested Edward McFarland, believing he helped Simpson get rid of Neely's body. McFarland is charged with abandonment or concealment or dead body and hinder prosecution.

"The level of cruelty alleged in this case is severe, and we will aggressively prosecute this case," said Coutny Attorney Andrew Thomas in a news release. "Our office will determine in the near future whether to seek the death penalty for this defendant."

Wingate describe Simpson as articulate and straightforward. When Wingate asked her why she killed Neely, the answer, to Simpson, seemed simple.

"I don't want my children or the people I consider family to be in a place where there are snitches," she said.

Neely lived in an assisted-living home not far from Simpson's apartment and often rode around in his motorized wheelchair. Simpson admitted that she barely knew Neely, but she did consider him a snitch.

"He told on a righteous person years ago," she said. "He told me that."

"I beat him to death. ... I killed him and cut him up," she said.

Simpson told Wingate she dismembered Neely's body and stuffed it into a trash can, which she then torched. The burning trash bin was found outside a North Phoenix church on Aug. 5. Police arrested Simpson for the murder on Aug. 19.

Simpson, who was already in jail when police caught up with her, told Wingate this is not the first time she's killed.

"I believe informants and child molesters should be killed ... period," she said.

Simpson said she was "kind of relieved" that police arrested her. She also said she takes medication and might be considered mentally ill.

"I think something's wrong with the world that I live in, but, according to other people, yes, somethiing is wrong with me."

Wingate asked Simpson if she felt guilty about Neely's death.

"Guilty? For ridding the world of a snitch? No, I don't feel guilty," she answered.

Two Boys Arrested on "Sexting" Charges

TUCSON (KOLD) - Two teenage boys face charges in a so-called "sexting" case. Police say a 13-year old girl sent a nude photo of herself from her cell phone to a friend's phone. They say the friend shared the picture with other boys at school.

Officers arrested the two boys, and police say they're trying to teach them a lesson about sending nude pictures.

"For one, it's stuck in cyberspace and it will never be eliminated," says Sgt. Diana Lopez of Tucson Police. "For two, for those who receive it and forward it to others, you're humiliating the person who sent the photo."

The boys face misdemeanor charges of intimidation and harassment through the use of a telephone.

Lopez says the boys could've faced harsher charges if the crime had happened in other states which are starting to crack down on sexting. Police are urging parents to check their children's cell phones and set limitations on how they're used.

Death Caught Up To Columbine Survivor

AZCentral- Tiffany Lien survived the shootings at Columbine High School, but she didn't survive the strip-club subculture in Phoenix.

A jealous husband kicked in the door of the room where she was sleeping with another man and shot the lovers to death.

On Thursday, a Maricopa County Superior Court jury sentenced Rodney Hardy to death for the murders.

Hardy and Lien had lived together for more than two years. Hardy, 47, was an ex-con with a successful limousine service, and in his off hours he was a regular at more than one Valley strip club. Lien, 21, was a stripper, and Hardy said he had rescued her from the streets when she was pregnant and hooked on drugs. In his court testimony, he said he tried to take her home to suburban Denver, but she had refused to return to her family after they got there. He even took her to Vegas to marry - though he was still married to another woman at the time.

On Aug. 26, 2005, according to police records, Hardy smacked Lien. He hit her again the next morning and she left, spending the weekend partying with a stripper girlfriend and Don Stanciel, 32, who was another strip-club regular. Police records said Stanciel had recently moved to Phoenix from California to look for a job.

Over the weekend, Hardy called Lien repeatedly to ask her to come home. Stanciel took the phone once and told Hardy that Lien was with him.

In the early hours of Aug. 28, 2005, Hardy drove to the Tempe apartment complex where Lien's friend lived. When she came out of her apartment to buy water from a vending machine, he grabbed her and forced her to take him to her apartment. Then he kicked in the door of where Lien and Stanciel were sleeping.

As they scrambled to their feet, Hardy shot them both in the head and left them dead on the apartment floor.

Two days later, he turned himself in to Tempe police.

In his closing arguments, prosecutor Jason Kalish alluded to Lien's emotional tailspin in the wake of the 1999 Columbine shootings in which two teen gunmen killed 12 students and a teacher and wounded 21 more.

According to Arapahoe County, Colo., sheriff's reports, Lien, then a 15-year-old freshman, was eating her lunch with a friend outside the school cafeteria on April 20, 1999, when they heard popping noises as if from firecrackers. They saw students fall to the ground and roll down a hill.

They told investigators they thought it was a production by the school TV station, until two kids sitting near them were shot and they saw the blood on their clothes.

Lien told investigators she looked the shooter in the eyes for at least 25 seconds, a skinny kid she did not recognize with long curly hair, wearing a long black coat, black jeans and baseball cap. He was later identified as Dylan Klebold, who killed himself after the attack along with his accomplice, Eric Harris.

Lien and her friend ran for their lives and hid, standing on a toilet in a stall in a girls bathroom. One of the gunmen shot into the room, shattering mirrors, though no one was hit. Lien listened as the shooter screamed "I hate you" to no one in particular, and when the shots seemed to be far enough away, the girls ran out of the building to safety.

Sometime around 2003, Lien moved to Phoenix with a boyfriend. She was pregnant when he dumped her.

And then she met Hardy.

She said she tortured Neely for three days.


According to autopsy results, Neely sustained multiple blunt-force head injuries and a 3-inch nail had been driven or hammered into his brain. He was also stabbed approximately 50 times, his throat was sliced and he was dismembered.

Simpson admitted that she dismembered Neely and placed him in a trash can. She borrowed a car and drove to a church at Ninth and Peoria avenues and set the trash can on fire.

Simpson allegedly committed a robbery along with Edward McFarlan, better known as "Cracker" last week. He reportedly told his apartment complex manager about the gruesome murder but threatened to kill him if he told polilce. "

".....Phoenix police have released the name of the murdered man whose body was found in a burning trash can in the backyard of a Phoenix church earlier this week.

According to investigators, Terry Neely, 46, was living at an assisted-living facility. With the help of surveillance video, detectives have determined that the last time Neely was seen alive was when he left the facility in his motorized wheelchair on Aug. 2 at about 8 p.m.

Police have confirmed that Neely's body had been paritally dismembered when it was found stuffed in the trash can in the area of Ninth and Peoria avenues Wednesday morning. He was later identified through fingerprints.

Neely's motorized wheelchair was not found at the scene. At this point, police do not know where it is.

Did Convicted Rapist Kidnap Missing Girl?

ABC News- Arizona's maximum security prison at Florence was not a place suburban parents Tracy and Darien Biggs ever expected to visit.

But their former neighbor, Dee Blalock, was serving a 187-year prison sentence at the facility, and the Biggses were determined to speak to him, believing he had the key to what happened to their eldest daughter, Mikelle.

Mikelle disappeared Jan. 2, 1999, at age 11 while waiting for an ice cream truck on a corner of her Mesa, Ariz., neighborhood. Her bicycle was found with the wheels still spinning and two quarters for ice cream discarded on the ground. There were no witnesses, no body found and little evidence.

When Mikelle vanished, police immediately ran a check on all the registered sex offenders in the area. They were surprised to discover that dozens of sex offenders were living within a mile radius of the Biggs house in the child-filled neighborhood.

As police searched for any trace of Mikelle, local families launched block-watch meetings to keep an eye on strangers ... and on each other.

"If you're my neighbor, and I see that you're living next to me, and I see something suspicious going on, I guarantee you I'll be calling 911," Blalock told a local newscast at the time.

Blalock appeared to be an outspoken advocate for law and order. He lived about two blocks from the Biggses and was described by neighbors as "friendly" and "personable."

But nearly two years after Mikelle Biggs vanished, the neighborhood got another shock when Blalock was convicted of raping and brutally attacking his neighbor, Susan Quinnett.

"He tried to snap my neck three times," said Quinnett. " He did successfully break it in one place. He put me in a chokehold. ... He choked me until I gave over and fainted."

Quinnett said she had complained to police about Blalock's unwanted advances.

"He was coming up on me. He was drunk. He reeked of beer," she said. "He was putting his hands on me ... in my yard. I called the police. I said, 'The guy is just creeping me out. He's stalking me. ... I've tried to tell his wife.'"

Quinnett did not know that Blalock was more than a local nuisance, but was, in fact, a registered sex offender. He had convictions in three states, but the law at the time did not require the community be notified.

Quinnett said police never followed up on her complaint, and on the night of the attack, he was waiting for her inside her home.

"He was hiding behind the refrigerator and ... had his pants unzipped, and he was exposing himself to me."

Quinnett said she was shocked and asked him what he was doing there.

"I tried to take a few steps, and he already ... had come forward and grabbed me ... and twisted my arm, and started ... forcing me to the ground."

Mesa police described Blalock's attack on Quinnett as brutal.

"One of the worst beatings I've ever seen," said Det. Jerry Gissel.

Quinnett survived the attack. She said she immediately suspected Blalock might also be responsible for Mikelle's disappearance and contacted the Biggses to tell them about her suspicions.

"I had talked to Tracy," she said. "I told her I felt very strongly. He was their closure. He was the answer."

Quinnett was so certain that Blalock was responsible that she offered to drop all charges against him if he would confess to taking Mikelle.

"I can't imagine not ever knowing what happened to your daughter," she said.

"I said, 'If he could bring some comfort or closure to them, I will walk away from this,'" she added. "[Authorities] said, 'We can't do that because ... it's the state versus Dee Blalock.'"

The Biggses had never heard of Blalock, but they soon learned that police had visited him in the early morning after Mikelle disappeared. Police said Blalock's wife provided an alibi for Blalock, claiming he had been in the garage the entire night.

Police also learned Blalock had seen Mikelle before. He told detectives he had seen her going to her piano teacher near his house.

The Biggses decided the only way to find more answers was to deal with Blalock directly. After Blalock was sentenced for his attack on Quinnett, the Biggses sent him a letter in prison, asking him directly if he had taken their daughter.

"I told him, 'If I'm wrong ... I won't be able to do enough to apologize to you,'" said Darien Biggs, "because that's a terrible thing to be accused of. ... But I don't care ... if I have to accuse a million different people until I find the right one."

Blalock answered in writing that "I need to make things right with you and your family."

He agreed to meet with the grieving parents.

"I was nervous," remembered Tracy Biggs. "I was kind of shaky."

Darien Biggs described the visit as one with an enormous mission.

"Tracy wanted to look in his eyes," he said. "She just wanted to look in his eyes and know whether or not he was guilty."

The Biggses spoke to Blalock in the prison for an hour and a half.

"He just denied, denied, denied, denied," said Darien Biggs. "He got mad a couple times ... but he never walked away." The Biggses said they reached a consensus about him immediately.

"As we were walking away, I remember telling Darien, 'I think he did it,'" recalled Tracy Biggs. "His movements ... his jitteriness ... he couldn't look you straight in the eye -- just things ... that would indicate that he was lying."

For Darien Biggs, the full impact of the encounter did not hit home until the next day.

"I was sitting three feet from this guy," he said. "You know, the only thing protecting him was that, you know, glass between us."

Although the Biggses said they believe Blalock was responsible for their daughter's disappearance, they do have doubts -- "just enough to keep me from going down there and getting myself thrown in jail," Darien said.

Mesa police detectives Gissel and Domenick Kaufman said they are investigating Blalock and described him as a promising lead in the case.But they emphasized that the case is still open and that Blalock has not been named as an official suspect.

Blalock repeatedly has denied involvement in Mikelle's disappearance.

Man Confesses to Burning Roommates Over 3 Days

TUCSON, AZ - A man confesses to Sheriff's deputies that he murdered his roommates and burned their bodies over the course of three days, says Pima County Sheriff's Office.

This comes one day after PSCO found two burned bodies in the front yard where two people were reported missing by their families two weeks ago.

Michael Carlson has confessed to the murder of Kenneth Alliman and Rebecca Lofton, say Sheriff's deputies. In his confession, Carlson stated that he shot and killed the pair with a sawed of shotgun while they were in his Cadillac. Carlson confessed that he "burned them over a period of three days, leaving and returning to disperse the remains," says the search warrant in the case.

He then attempted to clean the blood out of his car and hide the murder weapon in an RV, says the confession.

The story began weeks ago when Alliman and Lofton were reported missing by their families. They had recently allowed Carlson to move into their home on Tucson's West side near Trico Road.

Not long after the pair was reported missing, in a totally unrelated case, Carlson was stopped for driving a stolen vehicle on May 31st. When deputies informed him his vehicle was stolen, he attempted to flee the scene. Then when his vehicle became inoperable, he fled on foot and successfully evaded deputies.

At that time, deputies searched his left-behind vehicle and noticed signs that the vehicle may have been the scene of the crime.

16 days later, Carlson was apprehended and taken into custody. He then confessed to killing his sister back in 2003, and the murders of Alliman and Lofton, says PCSO.

Monday night, PCSO searched the property of the missing pair and discovered burned fragments in the front yard. The medical examiners office has confirmed that the remains are the bodies of two individuals.

"We do believe the remains are the individuals missing from the residence," says Pima County Sheriff's Deputy Dawn Barkman.

The remains are currently undergoing testing to determine if they are the missing pair.

man Tries to Commit Suicide Using Sword, Steering Wheel

AZCentral- A 27-year-old Mesa man drove through the block wall of a Chandler home and ended up in the pool after an apparent suicide attempt Tuesday morning, Chandler Police spokesman Sgt. Joe Favazzo said.

The man positioned a 24-inch sword through the steering wheel and tied it in place with a T-shirt. Favazzo said when he drove through the wall, the airbag deployed and bent the sword.

The car broke through the fence and crashed into the pool, but he got himself out.

The man was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, including a cut in the neck from the sword, said Favazzo.

It is unknown whether he will be charged with any crimes.

CRAWFORD COUNTY (WTOL) - A nationwide search is underway for little Haylee Donathan.

The 4-year-old girl was last seen more than a week ago in Crestline, and investigators say she may be in danger.

They believe she's with her mother and Robbi Potter. Potter spent 3 years in prison for sexually assaulting two children.

One of the victims' mothers has a warning for Haylee's mom.

"I would tell her to get away. Run, as fast as you can. I mean, even if she doesn't do it for herself, she's gotta do it for her child," the mother said.

Haylee's father, his girlfriend and the girl's uncle are charged with helping Potter escape.

Investigators were checking possible leads near Phoenix, Ariz., after receiving tips that Haylee may be there. The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force is handling the search.

"I'm a father myself and I can just imagine the fear in this girl, so we're not going to stop, we're going to keep going until we get her back safely," said Assistant Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Drew Deserto.

Deserto said they are willing to speak with Potter and Haylee's mother to arrange a 'safe surrender.'

Talks are underway to get the case featured on America's Most Wanted.

Man Accused of Broadcasting Rape Video

PHOENIX (June 2) - Phoenix police say a man was arrested after he sexually assaulted his girlfriend while she was passed out and broadcast the attack live on the Internet.

A probable-cause statement says 20-year-old Jonathan Richard Hock was arrested Monday on two counts of sexual assault, one count of kidnapping and one count of taking a surreptitious photo.

The court document said Hock set up a computer Web camera and sexually assaulted a woman he knew in her bedroom as she was unconscious from drinking Feb. 26.

The woman, who had been drinking, was asleep four to five hours when Hock allegedly raped her, reported Phoenix television station KPHO.

According to The Arizona Republic, the victim learned what happened when friends sent her text messages about the video.

A request with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office to interview Hock was not immediately returned. It was unclear whether he had a lawyer.

The site where the video had been posted provided a copy to police. Officials said Hock is popular on the site because of his sexual behavior, according to the newspaper, and there may be other victims.

Police: Fake Policeman Stops Off-Duty Officer

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- A man suspected of impersonating a police officer was arrested Tuesday after he stopped an off-duty Avondale officer and accused him of speeding, police said.

David Word was taken into custody at his home and booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on one count of impersonating an officer.

Officer Mathew Lydic said he was en route to work at the Avondale Police Department when he heard heard a loud siren coming from a vehicle behind him near Avondale Boulevard and Van Buren Street.

Lydic said he noticed the driver of a black Crown Victoria was following him and trying to get him to pull over. Word pulled up next to Lydic's vehicle and told him he had caught the off-duty officer driving 75 mph on the freeway and between 60 to 65 mph on Avondale Boulevard.

Lydic said he then noticed the vehicle Word was driving, a black Crown Victoria, had red and yellow lights in the rear that were activated during the traffic stop.

Word asked Lydic to drive slower and Word then drove away, police said.

The off-duty officer said he was able to get Word's license plate number and learned it was registered to Word.

Surprise police tracked him down and during a telephone interview, Word said he remembered pulling Lydic over. He said he activated his rear lights to stop Lydic's vehicle from running into him while we was talking to Word, police said.

The Avondale Police Department later arrested Word without incident.
