Attorney: Woman Found Alive After 12 Years Proof that People Do 'Disappear'

To the skeptics who can't believe that a woman would just run off, Drew Peterson's criminal defense attorney Joel Brodsky points to the case of a German woman found alive and well this week in Switzerland after leaving her family 12 years ago.

The 52-year-old woman, whose name was not disclosed, appeared to be healthy after living in a park shelter. She answered authorities' questions and told them she did not want anything to do her family.

Stacy Peterson, the wife of former Boligbrook police sergeant Drew Peterson, disappeared more than a year ago. Though police suspect foul play and say Mr. Peterson is the prime suspect, he has not been charged with any crime in connection with her disappearance. Peterson claims she ran off with another man and telling him she planned to do so.

"People are so quick to believe that Drew, a decorated former police officer and SWAT team member, did something to Stacy rather than believe the obvious which is simply she ran off," says Brodsky. "This latest case is once again proof that it happens."

Brodsky says that, combined with the fact that Stacy's own mother ran from the family, makes it even more likely that is what happened, rather than his client harming his wife in any way.

To prove his innocense, Peterson has appeared on various national talk shows and even took a polygraph as part of the book Drew Peterson Exposed. When asked whether he had anything to do with her disappearance, Peterson answer

Peterson is still married to Stacy, though he recently became engaged to his girlfriend and are living together in the same home he once shared with Stacy.

Peterson is also suspected in the death of his third wife Kathleen Savio whose body was exhumed after Stacy disappeared. The death that had been ruled accidental, was determined by state forensics experts to be a homicide.
