Man Killed in Hit-Run While at Scene of Fatal Crash
WEST WARWICK -- An 18-year-old male was killed in a hit-and-run accident early this morning while apparently visiting a make-shift memorial to a 14-year-old boy who died after driving a van into a utility pole at the site hours before.
Neither victim has been identified by local police, who said both were from West Warwick.
Police say they have no suspect or witnesses in the second crash, and are actively seeking any information about it or the driver.
In a press release today, police said that the first collision occurred at about 11:20 last night, when a Ford van operated by the boy struck the pole at 782 Main St.
He was alone in the van, police said.
The 14-year-old was brought to Kent Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. At about 4 a.m., the second crash occurred. Police responded to a report of "male down on the sidewalk" at the same location, according to the press release. On arriving, they found the 18-year-old with "life-threatening injuries" and evidence consistent with a hit-and-run collision. He had apparently been visiting a makeshift memorial to the the youth involved in the earlier accident. He was brought to Kent Hospital as well and pronounced dead. Police believe the driver in the second crash fled on Main Street toward the Hope section of Coventry. The vehicle probably sustained front-end damage, police added. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police headquarters at 401-821-4323 or the detective division at 401-827-9044. At midday, family members and friends of the 18-year-old were gathered at the site, marked by a T-shirt being signed by friends of the 14-year-old victim and a big, red fabric heart. They included a man who identified himself as the father of the second crash victim, who said he was from West Greenwich. As traffic passed on the busy road, near the site where the old Phenix mill burned in two years ago, he, too, asked those at the scene to help find those who might know more about the crash and the driver.

Bloomington man Charged in Hit-and-Run Turns Himself In
How horrible- not to mention maximum penalty is THREE YEARS? Are they kidding!

According to a criminal complaint, Mark Lindgren, 54 of Bloomington, was charged with Felony Hit and Run last Friday. Lindgren turned himself into police around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday and is currently being held at the Hennepin County Jail.
The complaint says on the night of Oct. 21, Lindgren struck and killed Dorothy Hanson with his truck at the intersection of 10th Ave. S. and E. Old Shakopee Rd. without stopping. A witness of the crash said the truck accelerated its speed drastically after it hit the victim.
Hanson was walking home after having dinner with her husband, who lives in a nearby care facility.
The complaint says an attorney representing the owner of the truck contacted police on Oct. 26 and made arrangements to turn the vehicle over to investigators the next day. The truck was registered to Lindgren and a search warrant was conducted of his apartment.
There, police collected a one-page document that listed Lindgren's timeline for the date of the accident, the complaint states.
It said he had one drink the night of the crash, then stopped by a friend's bonfire before heading home. The document said Lindgren didn't notice the headlight and damage to his vehicle following the accident until he got home.
The document said he assumed it was "a deer or bird."
If Lindgren is convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of three years in prison and $5,000 in fines.
WHAT A F*CKING LIAR!!
Cyclist Was Spat Out From Under Half-Blind Hit-and-Run Driver's Car

Patrice Gougam was head tennis coach at his local club and mixed with top players such as Martina Hingis when he was hit by a Land Rover driver who was being treated for glaucoma and cataracts and should not have been behind the wheel.
The head injuries sustained by Mr Gougam were so severe that he needs the help of machines to carry out basic tasks.
His wife, Virginia, said her life was “falling apart” after Mr Gougam, 53, was hit on the Great North Road between Barnet and Potters Bar on the evening of November 12 last year.
Hazel Goodyear, secretary of Enfield Chase Tennis Club, said: “Patrice is a lovely guy and this has devastated everybody at the club. I was the last person to see him before the accident. He left the tennis club and was on his way to his cycling club.”
St Albans crown court heard that Michael Elliott, 64, hit Mr Gougam but continued on his way to a photography club meeting in Barnet. It was only as he drove home past the crash site two hours later that he saw police had closed the road.
Retired Elliott, of Potters Bar, told an officer at the scene: “I think that's because of me.” Prosecutor Jane Tansley said a motorist behind Elliott saw his Land Rover bounce off the kerb and he heard a loud bang.
The witness told police: “I saw a person tumbling underneath the Land Rover and it looked like the person was spat out from underneath.”
Elliott admitted dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to notify the DVLA of his eyesight problems.
Gavin Irwin, for the defence, told the court that Elliott could lose his home as a result of civil proceedings being brought against him and the cost of Mr Gougam's health care.
Elliott was jailed for eight months, banned from driving for three years and given nine penalty points on his licence.

Woman Accused in Fatal Darien Hit-and-Run Faces Judge

Police say Candice Blanks was drunk when she struck and killed Lucas Silva and Felipe Chagas before fleeing the scene.
Blanks has been charged with driving while intoxicated and evading responsibility.
An attorney for Blanks said yesterday that his client was not drunk and that Blanks pulled over on her own, after her airbags deployed in the collision.
State police have not released Blanks' blood-alcohol level and say it's quite possible she refused to be tested that night.

Stamford Woman Charged With Vehicular Manslaughter After I-95 Hit and Run Accident Leaves 2 Dead

Candice Blanks was also charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. Lucas Silva, 22, of Stamford and Felipe Chagas, 19, of Bethel were standing on the shoulder near Exit 11 southbound at around 2:30 a.m. when they were struck by Blanks' vehicle.
Blanks then hit another car parked on the right shoulder of the highway, according to police reports. She fled the scene, even after her airbags deployed, but was apprehended shortly thereafter by Darien police.
Chagas and Silva were pronounced dead at the scene. Blanks was being held on a $250,000 bond.
The man were killed about 2:30 Saturday morning, and the woman who hit them was charged with drunken driving.
Felipe Chagas, 19, of Bethel and Lucas Silva, 22, of Stamford, were standing on the shoulder of the highway and changing the left rear tire of a Chevrolet Cavalier when the crash happened. A short distance ahead, several friends in a Volkswagen Passat had pulled off the highway to help.
Candice Blanks' was driving past when her Lincoln Aviator apparently veered into the shoulder and hit the two men, police said. The impact hurled Chagas against the Passat, and Blanks' SUV dragged Silva about 170 feet, state troopers said.
Blanks kept driving even though her car's airbag deployed, but she was caught a little farther south on the highway, according to police. Blanks, 29, of Stamford, was charged with drunken driving, two counts of vehicular manslaughter, evading responsibility and failing to stay in her lane. She was held in lieu of a $250,000 bond pending arraignment Monday.
Police called ambulances for a passenger in the Passat who suffered a minor injury and a 19-year-old passenger in the Cavalier who fainted. Troopers ask that any witnesses contact Troop G at 203-696-2500.

15-Year-Old Girl Found Dead In Front Of Church

Passers-by found the teenager lying at the end of Christ Church's circular driveway at Sagamore Road near Prescott Avenue at 11:45 a.m.
The girl sustained injuries to her head and arm, and the Bronxville Police Department is investigating the possibility of if the victim fell or was hit by a vehicle.
"We're not ruling out foul play at this point," stated Bronxville Police Sgt. Tony DeLeo.
According to DeLeo and church caretaker Noel Desmond, the girl was carrying a package or envelope and appeared to be walking to the local post office on Pondfield Road.
Desmond said someone else at the scene found the return address on the package and ran to the nearby address to alert the girl's parents.
The post office is across the street from Bronxville High School, where the teenager was a student.
It is unclear why the girl was running the errand at the time of her death. According to the school's calendar of events, early dismissal for the high school was at 1:30 p.m on Wednesday.
The school began its Christmas vacation on Thursday and classes resume on January 4, 2010.
The victim's name was not immediately released.
The investigation is ongoing and the Bronxville Police Department urges anyone with information to call (914) 337-0500.

Police: Tot Killed In Hit-And-Run Wasn't In Car Seat

Police said that before fleeing the scene of the deadly crash, the driver of a Mercedes got out of his car to check the damage to his vehicle.
Maurica Stanley, a 17-year-old student at Wilbur Cross High School, remained in critical condition at Yale New Haven Hospital on Monday. Stanley, the mother of 15-month-old Montez Turner, was riding in an SUV that was struck by a dark blue Mercedes-Benz that witnesses said was speeding on Mansfield Street in New Haven Saturday night.
Police said Stanley is likely paralyzed from the chest down.
Police said witnesses said the Mercedes’ driver failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Division Street and struck the SUV.
Montez was killed in the crash and Stanley, her mother and 10-year-old sister were injured. Stanley’s family told Eyewitness News that the crash left her paralyzed.
Police said Monday that Montez was not riding in a car seat at the time of the crash.
Police said the Mercedes’ driver got out of his car to check the damage before getting back in and speeding away.
"The individual, the driver of the Mercedes, he actually exited the vehicle, looked over to the intersection where the accident was and got back into the car and fled the scene," New Haven Police Sgt. Al Vasquez said.
"This is a monstrous act," said Emerson Blatche, the toddler's paternal grandfather. "If it was an accident, then so be it, but this man, to get out of his car and look at it, it shows this is a monster."
Montez’s paternal grandmother, Tywanna Harrington, described her grandson as a happy kid who was always smiling.
“He was a good baby, he didn’t deserve it,” Harrington said. “I want him to be caught, that’s what I want.”
Police are searching for a 1998-2003 Mercedes Benz that was last seen heading toward Hamden on Mansfield Street Saturday before 11 p.m. A license plate bracket from the Mercedes was found at the scene, they said.
"There's a part number behind the bracket, and we were able to determine it to be a 1998 to 2003 Mercedes Benz CLK 320," Vasquez said.
Police said the driver is a black man with medium build, about 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet 2 inches tall. He had long dreadlocks pulled into a ponytail and wore a blue polo shirt with horizontal white stripes, police said. He had blue or dark-colored shorts.
Police said they believe the two-door Mercedes has some front end damage, but maybe not much.
But the family and friends of the victims said they're hoping the public knows something.
"I have total confidence in New Haven Police Department," Blatche said. "It's just matter of time."

Man Charged In Teen's Hit-And-Run Death

Robert Park, 44, was arrested in connection with the death of 14-year-old Henry Waye on Monday.
Park didn't speak in court and did not acknowledge the grieving family of the 14-year-old in the courtroom.
Park's attorney argued for his client's bond to be lowered from $200,000 to $90,000. He said his client has been cooperative with police since a few weeks after the hit-and-run.
"Your honor, I was retained on March 23, 2009," the attorney said. "On March 24, 2009, I contacted the Bristol Police Department and notified them we were available for arrest if that should come to pass."
Park's attorney also said his client is ill and on medication, but he didn't elaborate.
Police said Park was driving drunk when he hit the Bristol Central High School freshman before taking off in March.
Henry and his friend were pushing their bikes up steep George Street when he was hit.
Police said Park lives on George Street.
However, state's attorney's office pointed out that this incident isn't the first in which Park has been charged with driving drunk. Two years ago, they said, he was charged with DUI and disorderly conduct out in Utah, where he was living at the time.
According to Bristol police's arrest warrant, police questioned Park on the night of the crash. It states that he "was slurring his words," was "unable to make complete sentences" and "made suicidal statements."

It also states that Park's blood alcohol level was ".30 percent."
In the end, the judge agreed to the lower bond.
Park's attorney said his client will likely post bond in the coming days, and will be allowed to drive.
Henry's family was outraged by the decision. They said they're appalled that Park would be allowed back on the road, where he could kill another person.
The arrest warrant also includes an interview with a witness who was on George Street at the time of the hit-and-run. In the warrant, the woman said she saw the two boys walking their bikes up the hill. She said they were clearly visible and that moments later she looked in her rearview mirror and saw a white pickup truck and that its headlights suddenly went out.
Police confiscated Park's pickup truck, which they said had clothing and other fibers on the hood of it.
"I think they strongly suspected (him), but again, knowing something and proving it are two different things," said Henry's grandfather, Gary Valencis. "He was really loved by pretty much everybody he came into contact with. He was everybody's pal."
Wearing bracelets in memory of Henry, family and friends supported one another at court on Tuesday.
Park was charged with second-degree manslaughter, among other things. He is due back in court next month.
Henry's family is also selling bracelets in his name for $1 each. The proceeds will go toward planting a tree in his honor at Bristol Central High school as well as his ceramics class at the school. For information, send this family an e-mail.

Aimee Michael Charged With Five Homicides for Easter Hit-and-Run

Aimee Michael was driving her BMW on April 12 when police believe she changed lanes and got in a chain-reaction wreck that claimed the lives of a couple, Robert and Delisia Carter, and their children: a newborn son and nine-year-old daughter. Meanwhile, another woman, Tracy Johnson, survived the accident in another vehicle — but her six-year-old daughter, Morgan, did not.
According to The Atlanta-Journal Constitution, the Carters’ Mercedes and the BMW supposedly collided when Michael veered out of her lane. The impact sent the Mercedes through the divider and it slammed head-on into Johnson’s Volkswagen as Michael drove away.
Michael’s bond hearing has been set for Friday.

Yes! They Got the Hit and Run Killer!!

Aimee Michael, 22, was arrested and charged with five counts of vehicular homicide and hit and run overnight after police found the BMW that they believed was involved in the wreck on Camp Creek Parkway.
Michael, in handcuffs and clad in a blue Fulton County scrub suit, sat quietly as Judge James Altman read the charges against her. Altman denied bond because Michael had nearly two weeks to turn herself in but did not.
"While this has been in the news with them looking for the car, she has done absolutely nothing to fulfill those responsibilities," said Altman.
Acting on a tip, SWAT officers converged on a home in south Fulton and impounded the vehicle in the driveway. Police spokeswoman Sgt. Melissa Parker said officers went into the home but found no one there.
According to Fulton County police, the Michael’s family sent her out Easter Sunday to get cake and ice cream.
That's when, police say, Michael's BMW collided with a Mercedes sending the Mercedes into oncoming traffic.
The Mercedes hit a Volkswagen head on.
Police said instead of stopping, Michael drove her wrecked BMW back home and parked it in the garage.
She told her family she had a headache and went to her room.
For two days, the BMW sat in the garage.
Michael's mother and grandmother told police they don't enter the house through the garage, so they didn't realize it was wrecked until two days after the wreck.
Police said that's when Michael broke down and told her family what happened.
At that point, investigators say, the family did not go to police.
Her mother and grandmother apparently knew about Michael's involvement for at least eight days, but did not come forward.
Instead, someone from the family had the car repaired.
Robert and Delisia Carter, their newborn son, and Delisia Carter's 9-year-old daughter, Kayla, died in the chain-reaction crash near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Also killed was Morgan Johnson, 6, whose mother, Tracy Johnson, 43, of Atlanta was injured.
John Mattox, who said he's a cousin of Tracy Johnson, said he needed to be in the courtroom as Michael faced her fate.
"I wanted to see to make sure she didn't get bond so I can feel happy about it," said Mattox.
Michael's relatives, clearly shaken from the ordeal, did not want to talk.
Will Rumph didn't know his neighbor by name, but he often saw her driving to and from her house.
He said at a recent neighborhood association meeting, a police officer attended.
"They had a flyer and they said they were looking out for this 1995 gold BMW,” said Rumph.
At the time that didn't register.
Police won't say yet whether they're going after the mechanic or Michael’s mother and grandmother.
That's up to Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard and people at his office tell CBS Atlanta News he's looking into it.

FIND THE BMW KILLER
ATLANTA - Memorial services were held Saturday for a family killed last week in a hit and run crash.
The crash happened on Easter Sunday on Camp Creek Parkway in south Fulton County.
Police are searching for the driver who left the scene - as family and friends celebrate the victims' lives.
Hundreds poured through the doors of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Saturday morning to remember the Carter family.
Robert – 39-years-old, 38-year-old Delisia, 9-year-old Kayla and 2-month-old Ethan were killed in a crash Easter Sunday.
A driver police believe was involved in the wreck sped away from Camp Creek Parkway afterwards.
"There's so many unanswered questions - what exactly happened?" said friend of the family, Tammy Sims.
Mourners -- temporarily putting away those questions -- focused on celebrating the family.
Delisia Carter was a motivational speaker. "She was just the most brilliant light that I ever knew," said Sims.
Robert Carter was a successful businessman. "The toughest part is knowing he's not there. And Delisia isn't there, the family's not there," said Cassius Butts
The couple was recently married. Friends said both were excited about expanding their family:
Nine-year-old Kayla was an enthusiastic dancer and cheerleader. "They played together a lot, hung out a lot, so she'll definitely be missed," said LaTonya Thompson.
And Ethan was two months into his life. "LIttle Ethan - the little time we spent with him - he was a peaceful baby," said Thompson
For friends and family, their one comfort: the Carters are together as a family.
A vigil is scheduled to remember all five victims of the accident near Camp Creek Parkway Saturday night.

SO Tragic...

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Four days after a tragic hit-and-run crash that claimed the lives of five people Fulton County Police are hot on the trail of the car and driver of the car that may have caused the crash.
Police say investigators are making significant progress trying to find the car and driver, who may be a female.
Police have updated the description of a BMW they are looking for. Fulton County Police Detective Melissa Parker said "We were able to narrow the scope of the search to a 1995 to 1999, 740 or possibly a 750-Series BMW."
Detective Parker says the color of the car is cashmere beige. She says it will have significant damage to the front driver side of the car and to the undercarriage.
Robert Carter, 39, Delisia Carter, 38, their 9-year old daughter Kayla and 2-month old son Ethan were on an Easter Sunday drive when the Carter's Mercedes collided with the BMW on Camp Creek Parkway.
The Mercedes crossed the grass median and struck a Volkswagen driven by Tracy Johnson, 43, of Atlanta. The four members of the Carter family were killed. Tracy Johnson was critically injured and her 6-year old daughter was killed in the crash.
Detective Parker says investigators found several pieces of the suspect car at the crash site after it side-swiped the Mercedes.
Fulton County Police took the pieces to a BMW dealership which was able to narrow down the make, model and year of the car. They were also able to determine the lot number of the paint used on the car.
Police say they are focusing their search for the car down to neighborhoods near the crash site. One of the pieces of the car found at the crash site was a piece of the oil pan. The dealership told police the car would have been leaking oil and unable to drive very far from the scene.
With that information and a handful of tips about possible sightings of the car police are watching specific houses where residents said they saw the car. They believe it might be hidden behind closed garage doors.

And now 11-Alive News has learned the GBI is helping Fulton County Police by researching tag numbers of cars fitting the suspect vehicle description. The GBI is compiling a list of cars registered to addresses in Fulton County and near Fulton County.
"The GBI has a way of narrowing it between cities, local areas, and we do believe it's a local vehicle and that would be a good place to start," Detective Parker said.
Detective Parker says there are probably more than a thousand vehicles fitting the description registered in the county.
Investigators will take the list from the GBI and start with those registered closest to the crash site and work outward, according to police.
In the meantime, Detective Parker says they still want the public to stay alert and call them with any sightings of the car. Anyone with information about the car should call 404-612-5314.
