Authorities are investigating what they believe to be a double homicide in Montgomery County.
Two bodies were found along Craig Creek Road in the Jefferson National Forest Thursday morning. The sheriff's office identified the victims as 19-year-old David Lee Metzler and 18-year-old Heidi Lynn Childs, both from the Lynchburg area. The two were found in the Caldwell Fields area by a man walking his dog.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office says both were Virginia Tech students living off campus. Authorities say Metzler's body was found inside a car and Childs' body was outside the car. Both had been shot.
Sheriff Tommy Whitt says it was a "very brutal crime scene." They believe the crimes happen either late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.
We're told a suspect has not been identified.
