Escaped Killer Still at Large in Washington State

(CNN) -- A legally insane killer was on the loose in the state of Washington on Saturday, two days after he escaped during a field trip to a county fair, authorities said.

Phillip Paul was able to elude a massive manhunt in Spokane County, Washington, after escaping on Thursday, a spokesman for the sheriff's department said.

Though Paul had been confined in a mental institution because of a murder confession, he was allowed to be part of a trip to a county fair Thursday.

Paul, 47, escaped from the fair around noon, which launched the massive manhunt and brought criticism from many, including state government officials. Sheriff's officials told CNN affiliate KREM-TV that Paul also escaped briefly in 1991 and assaulted a law enforcement officer.

A review has been launched on the incident along with the policy that allows patients to take trips, said Susan Dreyfus, secretary of the state's Department of Social and Health Services.

Dreyfus said she was concerned about Paul's escape and another recent brief escape by a patient at a different local mental facility.

"These incidents, separate and coincidental, have raised serious questions about the security readiness of our two state psychiatric hospitals," Dreyfus said.

Paul was committed to Eastern State Hospital after admitting he strangled and slit the throat of community activist Ruth Motley in 1987, KREM-TV reported. According to court documents obtained by KREM, Paul believed Motley was a witch and killed her in response to voices in his head.

He subsequently burned a deer carcass as a sacrifice, according the documents.

The extent of Paul's illness was disturbing even to mental health professionals, KREM reported.

"He's the only paranoid schizophrenic -- I've seen hundreds, maybe thousands of them -- that frightened me," Dr. Frank Hardy, a licensed psychiatrist, says in one of the documents, according to KREM. "The first time I took one look at him -- and I've never done this before or since -- I asked the jailer to remain in the room while I examined him.

"I believe he would respond to his delusions and his voices again" if released, Hardy wrote.

But Paul "Coyote" Neumann, a disc jockey at Spokane radio station Kix 96-FM, has an entirely different view of the escapee. Neumann has known Paul for 12 years through volunteering at the hospital and correspondence by mail.

Paul is a talented artist, Neumann told KREM-TV.

"I was just amazed by his ability. I always took him as a savant," Neumann said. "I never knew that he had murdered somebody until three or four or five years later."

Neumann described Paul as a "gentle soul."

"I've never seen him raise his voice; I've never seen him get frustrated; I've never seen nothing but kindness from him," he told KREM.

"I get mixed emotions because I do see the sweet, softer side of this individual, but I've never seen him unsupervised, I've never seen him not medicated," Neumann said. "But that's not to say in another 12, 15, 20 hours without those medications that he doesn't revert to those demons."

FBI Puts Brazen Bandit's Face on Billboards

(To me, he kinda looks like that actor from the Dave Chappelle Show, lol)

(CNN) -- He has been captured by bank surveillance cameras in four states, sneering and holding a pistol sideways during heists.

Now authorities hope to catch the serial bank robber by plastering his image on electronic billboards throughout the South.

The FBI is searching for the suspect, who they say has robbed at least 10 banks in Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

"This is a unique instance in which the subject in these bank robberies has not used a mask ... or any type of a gimmick," FBI agent Kevin Keithley said Tuesday in Johnson City, Tennessee. "It is really uncommon just to come into a bank and show his face like he has."

The brazen bandit has been captured in surveillance footage sporting the same close-cropped hairstyle and goatee in many of the holdups. He does not seem to make any effort to cover his face and sometimes is seen aiming a handgun sideways, showing his tattoos on both forearms as he gestures at bank employees.

The FBI has mapped the bank robber's path on a map that crisscrosses the southern United States.

The billboard that went up Monday roughly follows the path that bank robber took, the FBI said.

His odyssey has spanned more than 600 miles north, from Charleston, South Carolina, to Louisville, Kentucky, and about 500 miles east, from Knoxville, Tennessee, to Edenton, North Carolina.

The robberies started in May and the most recent one was last week in Tennessee, Keithley said.

The suspect has not yet harmed anybody in the robberies, but the FBI considers him extremely dangerous.

"This guy has made no effort to hide the gun," Keithley said . "He has threatened the use of it in every bank robbery that he has committed. He has put the gun in the faces of tellers, threatened to use the gun against them.... So certainly we need to get this guy in custody before he does harm someone."

The suspect is described as white, about 25 years old, 5 feet 9 to 5 feet 11, 170 to 175 pounds. He has short, reddish-brown hair and an unshaven goatee, the FBI said.

The bureau asks anybody who knows the bank robber to call 423-282-8090.

Model's Breast Implants Prove Key to Identifying Body

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- The nude body of a former swimsuit model found last weekend in Orange County was identified through her breast implants' serial number, two law enforcement sources said Friday.

An arrest warrant alleging murder was issued Thursday for Ryan Alexander Jenkins, a reality TV contestant whom Jasmine Fiore, 28, married in March.

CNN has not confirmed reports that the marriage was annulled.

Fiore's body was found Saturday in a Dumpster behind an apartment complex in Buena Park, just outside Anaheim, California. Her teeth had been extracted and fingers removed in what police said was an apparent attempt to conceal her identity.

Fiore lived in Los Angeles and was last seen alive Friday in San Diego at a poker game with Jenkins, a reality TV contestant.

"We believe he has crossed into Canada," U.S. Marshals Chief Inspector Thomas Hession told reporters. Prosecutors requested bail be set at $10 million.

Jenkins is believed to be armed, Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said Thursday. "There's a handgun missing from his apartment, which is the last place he was before he fled," he said.

Jenkins matched the description of a man seen driving a boat Wednesday in Blaine Marina off northwest Washington, the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office said. Blaine, Washington, borders Canada.

Authorities searched the area and found Jenkins' black SUV with an empty boat trailer at the Blaine Marina, police said.

Jenkins reported Fiore missing Saturday night to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, authorities said.

The body was identified Monday as Fiore. While the cause of death had not been confirmed, a preliminary coroner's report indicated she was strangled.

According to court records in Las Vegas, Nevada, Jenkins was charged in June with battery for allegedly striking Fiore in the arm with his fist.

In 2007, Jenkins pleaded guilty in Calgary, Alberta, to assault in a separate case. He was sentenced to 15 months probation, ordered to undergo counseling for domestic violence and sex addiction and to stay away from the person involved, according to court records.

Jenkins, who appeared on the VH1 show "Megan Wants a Millionaire," is from Calgary.

51Minds, which produced "Megan Wants a Millionaire," said Thursday in a written statement that it "was not aware of Ryan Jenkins' record when it cast him."

"The company did have in place what it thought was a thorough vetting process that involved complete background checks by an outside company for all contestants on its shows," it said. "Clearly, the process did not work properly in this case. 51 Minds is investigating what went wrong and taking steps to ensure that this sort of lapse never occurs again."

New Gross Details on This Tragic Slaying..

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- An arrest warrant for murder has been issued for the ex-husband of a former swimsuit model whose nude body was found over the weekend, Orange County police said Thursday.

The body of Jasmine Fiore, 28, was found Saturday stuffed into a suitcase inside a Dumpster behind an apartment complex in Buena Park, just outside Anaheim in Orange County. Her teeth had been extracted and her fingers removed.

Fiore lived in Los Angeles and was last seen alive Friday in San Diego at a poker game with her ex-husband, Ryan Alexander Jenkins, a reality TV contestant.

"We believe he has crossed into Canada," U.S. Marshals Chief Inspector Thomas Hession told reporters. "He needs to understand that he is now officially wanted. We won't stop looking for him."

Prosecutors requested bail be set at $10 million.

Wednesday night, officers from the Blaine Police Department in northern Washington recovered a black 2003 BMW X5 SUV outfitted with a boat trailer and a boat belonging to Jenkins in Point Roberts, just south of the Canadian border, said Buena Park, California, Chief of Police Tom Monson.

"It's now our belief that he has now crossed the border on foot," he said, adding that authorities were working with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to find him.

Monson appealed to the public for help in locating a white 2007 Mercedes Benz CLS550 with paper license tags also linked to the suspect.

Hession cautioned anyone who might be considering helping the suspect flee that doing so would leave them open to charges of aiding and abetting a fugitive.

"Ryan Jenkins is an animal," said Robert Hasman, a family friend who said Fiore had been his girlfriend for 2 1/2 years.

"What he has done to Jasmine is unspeakable. It's just not right." He described her as "a beautiful person who was a very caring individual and a lot of the information that you are seeing in the news is not true."

He would not specify to what he was referring.

Buena Park Police Lt. Steve Holliday said Fiore's fingers and teeth had been removed. Asked whether that was done to keep her body from being identified, he said, "It can be inferred that way."

"It appears to be a gruesome attempt to conceal her identity," concurred Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas in an interview with CNN's "Larry King Live." Jenkins is the sole suspect in the killing, authorities said. "There is no indication that anybody else might be involved," he said.

Jenkins is believed to be armed, Rackauckas said.

The body was identified as Fiore on Monday. While the cause of death has not been confirmed, a preliminary coroner's report indicates she was strangled.

Jenkins and Fiore reportedly had been married a few weeks before getting the union annulled.

According to court records in Las Vegas, Nevada, Jenkins was charged in June with battery for allegedly striking Fiore in the arm with his fist. And in 2007, Jenkins pleaded guilty in Calgary, Alberta, to assault in a separate case. He was sentenced to 15 months probation, ordered to undergo counseling for domestic violence and sex addiction and to stay away from the person involved, according to court records.

Jenkins, who appeared on VH1 shows, "Megan Wants a Millionaire" and "I Love Money 3," is from Calgary.

51 Minds, the production company of "Megan Wants a Millionaire," said Thursday in a written statement that it "was not aware of Ryan Jenkins' record when it cast him.

In a statement, VH1 said it has postponed any airings of "Megan Wants a Millionaire" because of the "tragic situation."

Manhunt Continues for Katy ISD Officer Abducted at Gunpoint

WALLER COUNTY, Texas—A statewide manhunt was launched Tuesday after deputies say a Katy ISD police officer was abducted by a fellow cop.

Waller County Sheriff Glenn Smith said Officer Rachel Hillsman was taken from her vehicle at gunpoint by her former boyfriend Julio Reyes, who also works for Katy ISD police.

It happened around 5 a.m. on FM 1458 in Waller County. Hillsman, 24, was opening the gate to her mother's house when she was grabbed in front of her two children. She may have been handcuffed.

Officials believe 38-year-old Reyes was armed with an AR-15 assault rifle, a pistol and a Taser at the time of the abduction.

“Mr. Reyes is a trained individual. He would be trained in hiding if he wanted to, so we’re going to have to use every resource that we can to find him,” Smith said.

Smith said a statewide search was under way for both officers, and an aggravated kidnapping warrant had been issued for Reyes in Waller County.

“Our number one concern at this time, obviously, is the safety of both of these officers,” Smith said.

Relatives of Hillsman said they were shocked that the man they know as Trey could do something like this.

"I'm scared, I'm just very scared and if Trey can see just please bring Rachel home, please," said Ava Henry, Hillsman's aunt.

Smith said Hillsman and Reyes have a 13-month-old daughter together and she has a 7-year-old from a previous relationship.

“We do know that they have not been living together for quite some time, but we do not know all of the personal information about it,” Smith said.

The couple had separated in November, but sources say they had fought the night before because she was seeing was someone new. Hillsman had reportedly spent the night at her mother’s because of the fight.

After interviewing Hillsman's 7-year-old at the scene, deputies learned there was a small struggle between Hillsman and Reyes on the side of the road before the abduction, Smith said.

Smith said both of Hillsman's children were unharmed and were put safely in their grandmother’s custody.

Smith said his department was working with the DPS, DEA, Harris County, the Texas Rangers, the Brookshire PD and other agencies in their search for the officers, and that they were utilizing all available resources.

Investigators were combing local roadways and hotels, as well as searching from the air, Smith said.

“Anytime you have a live abduction that was seen firsthand that officers were able to respond to immediately, then we’re going to put in every resource we can. Obviously with both of them being police officers, I’m not going to stand before you and tell you that’s not a concern,” Smith said.

Smith said the last verified communication with the officers was around 8 a.m. in the Katy Freeway area.

Both Hillsman and Reyes were described as experienced cops.

Katy ISD spokesman Steve Stanford said Reyes had been with the district’s police department since May of 1999, and Hillsman had been there since January of 2006.

Stanford said neither one of them was on duty at the time of the alleged abduction, but that Hillsman was on her way to work when it occurred.

Reyes was last seen driving a 2002 green Ford Super Duty pickup with license plate 87V-DP7.

If you see the truck or have any information on the case, call the police.

“This is a serious situation, no matter who it is, when this type of thing happens, and we’re going to be out there looking for them,” Smith said.

Got the Sucker

4th St. Tammany escapee caught; massive manhunt ends-
NEW ORLEANS – A massive, two-day manhunt is over after deputies find a man who escaped from the St. Tammany Parish jail.

Early Sunday morning law enforcement officers found 30-year-old Timothy Murray in a rural area three miles west of Highway 25 in Folsom.

Murray eluded law enforcement officers for more than 48 hours. But the hunt for him ended around 1 a.m. with his capture.

Officers discovered Murray in a wooded area off of Bennett Bridge Road near Folsom, no more than five miles from the St. Tammany Parish jail.

Murray was one of three men who broke out of the jail Thursday night. All of them were in jail on charges of murder or attempted murder. Murray himself faced a murder charge for the death of a Slidell man back in 2006.

Deputies caught three of the escapees Friday morning, but Murray eluded them until now.

People who live near where Murray was caught say there were several dozen law enforcement vehicles and a helicopter hovering in that vicinity over night. They say deputies shut down Highway 1078, not letting anyone in or out of the area in their final push to find Murray.

'It's upsetting that they wouldn't let us back in. So, as time went on, we sat on the side of the road. It was hot, we didn't want to leave the car on and we stayed there for about an hour, and hour and 10, 15 minutes,” said resident Wayne Charrier. “They had like a family out there, they had like four or five people coming home and of course they wouldn't let none of them-- one group, one couple was so close, they could almost see their house, but they still would not let them through.

“But they got a job to do," Charrier said.

St. Tammany Sheriff Jack Strain has scheduled a news conference for Monday afternoon, where he is expected to discuss what led deputies to Murray's location. Strain said hundreds of law enforcement officers helped in the search.

He said he would not comment further on the situation so that those officers could celebrate Father's Day.

"You do kind of get in the habit of thinking like the Northshore is kind of its own little island, and separate from everything-- but every so often something happens that rocks the whole area,” said resident Amanda Ladreyt. “It's just one of those things, I guess. I think it does remind you that you're not on your little island and no place is Pleasantville.”

Body Found Near Where Prof's Jeep Was Located

BOGART, Ga. (AP) — Police dogs searching for a University of Georgia professor accused of killing his wife and two other people discovered a body Saturday near where the teacher's abandoned Jeep was found.

Police said the body was taken to a state crime lab for identification. The body was found 1.3 miles from where George Zinkhan's Jeep was located about a week after the April 25 shootings, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department said in a news release.

Authorities planned a news conference for Saturday afternoon.

Zinkhan has been on the run since police say the marketing professor opened fire on a reunion for a local theater group a short distance from the university's campus.

Authorities said they believed Zinkhan left his two young children in the car at the time of the shootings. He was last seen dropping the children off at a neighbor's house shortly after the shooting, saying there was an emergency.

At one point, more than 200 law enforcement officers scoured the forest where the Jeep was found wrecked in a ravine near Zinkhan's home, trying to locate him. His passport also was found in the Jeep.

Bulletins were issues nationwide and authorities kept watch on airports in case Zinkhan tried to flee to Amsterdam, where he has taught part-time at a university there since 2007. Federal authorities later revealed Zinkhan had an upcoming flight booked to Amsterdam, but the professor never showed up at the airport.

Zinkhan had been a professor in the university's Terry College of Business and had no disciplinary problems, school officials said. He had taught at UGA since the 1990s and was fired after the shootings.

The shooting victims were identified as Zinkhan's wife Marie Bruce, 47; Ben Teague, 63; and Tom Tanner, 40. Two others were injured by bullet fragments. Authorities said initially they had no motive for the shooting. Later the FBI said interviews with family and friends indicated Bruce may have been considering a divorce and said the shooting was likely a domestic dispute.

Zinkhan's wife, a family law attorney, had been serving as president of Town & Gown Players, the local theater group that was having the reunion at the Athens Community Theater.

Tanner was a Clemson University economist who taught at the Strom Thurmond Institute of Government and Public Affairs in Clemson, South Carolina. Tanner was playing Dr. John Watson in the group's performance of "Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure."

Teague was one of Town & Gown's longest-serving volunteers and was married to a popular University of Georgia English professor.

Bogart is a rural town about 60 miles east of Atlanta.
