STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- Stillwater police are searching for two suspects after a man was found staggering out of the woods with his throat slashed.
A fisherman found the 19-year-old Jason Wells Thursday morning at Lake McCurtry northwest of Stillwater.
Stillwater Police said the teen had been stabbed multiple times near a gravel campsite and someone cut his throat with a pocket knife.
"It was a pretty gruesome scene," Dickerson said. "Due to the nature of his injuries, we did not have any verbal communication with him at all."
Stillwater said they believe whoever is responsible for the attack had intended to kill Wells.
"Young man is probably lucky to be alive. We're hoping he pulls out of this," Dickerson said.
Court documents show Wells was arrested for marijuana possession two years ago. However, a friend of Wells said she has no idea who would want to hurt him and believe he was turning his life around. Wells also has a 1-year-old daughter.
Wells is listed in critical condition at OU Medical Center.
Police are now looking for two Hispanic males who were last seen driving a 2001 or 2002 gold GMC pickup. One man appeared to be in his mid 20s.
Anyone with information is asked to call Stillwater police at 405-742-8327.
