SMYRNA, Ga. -- Police believe thieves shot and killed a Smyrna man when he surprised them as they tried to break into his truck early Sunday morning.
Joseph Gunn, 54, was found shot outside his home in the 1700 block of Highlands View Drive just before 3 a.m.
Gunn worked as an instructor at Chattahoochee Tech, teaching in the automotive and water sports repair department since 2004.
Channel 2 Action News reporter Ross Cavitt spoke to the detectives handling the case and they said it appears Gunn heard or saw thieves breaking into his truck, parked outside his townhome. When he went to investigate, he was shot.
Gunn was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he died.
Police are searching for two black males in connection with the shooting.
