MORGANTOWN, Ind. -- A woman was charged with murder, arson and burglary in the June 19 slaying of her husband in rural Brown County.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Dottie Andrews, 40, told Indiana State Police Detective Jeff Deckard that she and her husband, Robert Andrews, 44, were estranged.
Police said they found a notebook in Dottie Andrews' SUV that claimed her husband had been abusive -- beating and sexually assaulting her.
"I will see you in hell," part of the note read.
Police said that Dottie Andrews told them she shot her husband and his dog just before 3 a.m. and intended to kill herself, but the gun jammed.
Investigators said she started a fire, was overcome by flames and went to the back yard to call 911.
Dottie's family members told police that she had obtained a protective order that prohibited Robert from contacting her, but that he did so anyway by sending threatening messages two or three times a day.
Dottie Andrews remained hospitalized Tuesday in police custody in Indianapolis.
