State police are conducting the investigation. Because it involves a police officer and because it happened at 3 a.m., details are slow to develop. But one thing we can be sure of is it has shaken the lives of several individuals in this young community.
The mangled cars shows the severity of the crash.
"Ashlie was the type of person you could go out with and be crazy with, but at the same time she had a sensitive side and could just tell you you were beautiful," Jamie Bortner, Krakowski's friend, said. "She didn't deserve this."
A series of events leads up to this tragic accident. It begins Friday night in West Haven at a club called Utopia Cafe 77. A large brawl erupted and West Haven Police asked for back up from Milford and Orange. Six people were arrested at the brawl.
About an hour later, Milford police officer Jason Anderson finished his assistance and headed home.
At an intersection less than a mile away from the club, Anderson collided with Servin's Mazda as the 19-year-old made a fatal left turn, said State Police.
Both of the fatalies were students of Amity High School class of 2007.
Anderson suffered minor injuries and was treated at Yale New Haven Hospital.
State Police said they have recovered the dashboard camera from Anderson's cruiser and will be reviewing the tape as part of their investigation.
