Over 1,200 Fugitives Surrender At Church

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Over 1,200 fugitives wanted for non-violent crimes turned themselves in during the four-day "Safe Surrender" program at Zion Assembly Church in Harrisburg.

Officials said that they satisfied nearly 6,000 outstanding warrants. Some of the 1,281 fugitives had multiple warrants.

Other fugitives came from as far away as Hawaii and the Dominican Republic.

Officials also said that the results were better than expected.

"Safe Surrender" is a federal program that intends to get non-violent offenders to come forward and face their charges in a safe environment.
