RIMROCK, Ariz. -- The Yavapai County Sheriff's said the remains found Aug. 10 outside Beaver Creek Campground are that of Sylar Newton, 2.
In a news release, the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said it is now awaiting toxicology test results as it continues its investigation into Sylar's death.
Sylar Newton was camping with his custodial mother and her family July 25 when they reported that he wandered away. A search turned up no sign of him.
His remains were found weeks later at the bottom of a wash near the campsite.
According to investigators, witnesses at the campground told detectives Sylar appeared as if he was under the influence of a narcotic or medication.
Investigators are treating Sylar's disappearance and death as a criminal investigation.
The reward in this case has grown to $8,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case.
